Lattice Crust Apple Pie

~ Lattice Crust Apple Pie ~

  • One double-crust pie pastry (You can get my recipe here)
  • 6 apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp Butter, cubed
  • 1 egg white
  • Pinch of sugar
Slice the apples, then set aside.
In a separate bowl mix together the sugar, and cinnamon.
Roll out one of the pie crusts
Place it in a pie pan

Layer the apples and cinnamon and sugar in the pie crust.

Dot the top with the butter.
Roll out the second pie crust.
Using a ruler as a guide, cut one inch strips in the crust.

Lay five of the strips on the pie, like in the picture above.
 Fold back two.
Lay another strip across. (Like in the picture above)
Then fold back the two strips over the other.
Fold up the other three strips.
 And lay another across.
 Fold the three strips back.
Continue this process until the top is complete.

 Tare off the access dough.
Fold the extra underneath the edge of the bottom crust.
Crimp the edges of both crusts with a fork.
Beat the egg whites until they are foamy.
Brush the egg whites onto the crust.
 Sprinkle the sugar on top.
Place the pie in an oven preheated to 450 degrees F. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes longer.
Serve warm or cold. Enjoy!

  1. That is an interesting way of making it! Our recipe always mixes all the apple pie filling together before putting it in the crust! I might have to try your way sometime.
